SSI Carrier receives desired "handling award 2018"

High performance transport, accumulation, dynamic buffering, sequencing and sortation – these are the characteristics that convinced an independent panel of industry award judges to declare the innovative SSI Carrier pouch sorter system by warehouse and logistics systems solutions provider SSI Schaefer the winner in the category "Warehousing, order picking and intralogistics".

On 9 October this year, the SSI Schaefer pouch sorter received the "handling award 2018" in that category. The renowned industry award is granted in four categories and signifies novelty value and innovation, customer use, sustainability and commercial viability of "technical innovations that are crucial for industry 4.0," said Anja Karliczek, Germany’s Federal Minister of Education and Research.

The prize was awarded during a grand event at the International Trade Fair for Automation in Production and Assembly, Motek in Stuttgart, Germany.

In addition to the "handling award 2018", the SSI Carrier – which optimises processes in e-commerce and omni-channel distribution -- is also listed in the ranking of the "Industriepreis 2018" and is rated "Best of 2018".

Michael Mohr, executive vice-president sales at SSI Schaefer, claimed: "Another award for the highly-dynamic pouch sorter system proves our focus and the long-term investment in product and solution development at SSI Schaefer. We designed the SSI Carrier with direct customer focus and thus, developed an intelligent solution to meet the current challenges in omni-channel distribution. It receives extremely positive feedback and is in high demand on the market."

Versatile, economical and award-winning

The modular pouch sorter system is predestined for parallel handling of multiple distribution channels and is especially suitable as a dynamic returns buffer for e-commerce.

The pouch sorter reaches performance rates of up to 10,000 load carriers per hour and can be used for all kinds of products such as shoes, electronics, home appliances, cosmetics or clothes with a weight of up to 3kg.

The modular concept by SSI Schaefer not only ensures extremely gentle transport for increased storage density, but also high availability and fast, reliable order processing. The accuracy and error prevention of the applied radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology ensure high reliability and process stability of the system.

All in all, the SSI Carrier perfectly combines the assessment criteria forming the basis of the "handling award 2018" -- a convincing, innovative technology which improves production processes as well as having unique features.
