Amazon India launches free video streaming service

Adding an entertainment service can help lure in shoppers to its app.

Amazon has launched miniTV in India, a free, add-supported video streaming service within the e-commerce firm’s shopping app, IGD reported.

miniTV streams content across web-series, comedy shows, tech news, food, beauty and fashion. It is free to use and does not require a separate app.

Adding an entertainment service like miniTV allows Amazon to increase uptake and frequency of use for its shopping app, IGD noted. In 2019, Amazon’s competitor Flipkart launched its own in-app streaming service in India called Flipkart Video.

Amazon recently shut down its standalone app for its Prime Now food and grocery delivery service. The service will only be available through the Amazon app or website in all markets by the end of the year.
